About

Our River is one of the most unique and technical rivers in the world. From the time you begin your Alaska fishing adventure until the time you arrive back the following week in preparation of returning home, you will have fished 75 miles of the River – 35 miles up and 35 miles back. Our river offers up its 11 species (when the Pink Salmon are in). Depending on the week of your stay, there will be between 7 and 10 species of fish for your angling pleasure. The mother river, the Kuskokwim, boasts the largest Chum Salmon and Silver Salmon run and the 2nd largest King Salmon run of any river in Alaska.

OUR FISH EAT MICE! That’s right – Your Alaska River Adventure at our Lodge holds the title of one of two top “trout mousing rivers in Alaska and one that is favored around the globe! The river and its tributaries have an incredibly healthy and unpressured Leopard Rainbow Trout population.

When is the best time catching giant Leopard Rainbows on mice patterns? The answer is actually any week we are open. However, the months of June, July and early August show off the river’s “mousing specialty” and it certainly separates our River Adventure from other operations in Alaska.

Alaska is truly “The Last Wilderness Frontier” and this River is its hidden treasure boasting its bounty – season after season.

We offer 6 days of fishing / 7 nights lodging (Saturday to Saturday).
Your fishing trip will begin on Saturday and end of the following week Saturday. The sport fishing season in Alaska lasts approximately 3 ½ months out of the year. Our season usually starts mid-June and runs through the middle, or end, of September. Due to the limited number of anglers per season, most make their reservations early to secure the week of their choice. It is not unusual for guests to book 2 – 3 years in advance due to the limited fishing season and limited number of guests per week this trip can accommodate.

Weekly Schedule

“Welcome To The River – A Fishery That Must Be Experienced To Be Believed!”

We operate on a weekly trip schedule with arrival on Saturday and departure on Saturday. Therefore, your airline tickets in and out of Aniak should be booked as such. We must arrive in Anchorage the Friday before your trip (or earlier) to ensure that you will make the Saturday morning flight .

If you are hosting a group with us, and you would like to “customize” your week of fishing/lodging with us, please feel free to do so ahead of time. We do ask, however, that the entire group of guests move upriver and downriver at the same time, to ensure a more successful transition for you, the Staff, Chef, Guides and your fishing trip overall. Once there, if we, or our guests, feel there is a need to make the transition earlier or later, we are more than happy to do so.

Our goal is to provide you an exciting, and successful, time on the River. Each night, should you so desire, you will have some relaxation/free time, fly-tying instruction, possible casting lessons or “mousing” techniques, and discussion time with your Guide as to any questions you may have or the fish you landed that day. More importantly, please do not hesitate to inform them of what you might like to try next, or do differently, to get the “ultimate” out of your fishing experience on this most unique, remote, and bountiful river.

Recommended Tipping Policy

Our Guides, Management, Wait Staff, and Chefs work very hard to make your trip an exciting, happy, and successful one! They take much pride in sharing their expertise and knowledge with you and enjoy creating unforgettable memories and “amazing fish tales” to carry back home to your friends and families. We are in the business of “repeat business” which lets us all know that we are doing our jobs correctly.

The recommended cash gratuity for  River Guides and Staff is 13% of our regular trip price and are pooled together at the end of the trip. Cash is preferred and is normally handed to the Manager on Friday evening. However, if you wish to present a little something extra to a particular Guide, Manager, or Customer Service Staff member, you can always feel free to do so in a private, person-to-person gift. We thank you in advance for your generosity towards our Staff, as it is an honor for them to serve during your “Fishing Trip of a Lifetime”.

Rods & Reels

First, you are going to need an 8, 9 or 10 weight Fly rod, one that has a fast action. If you have to make a choice, I would go with the 9 wt. Also, fast rods are a must. You are throwing large streamers all day, and a fast weight rod will work much better and save your arm from casting all day!  Large arbor reels are also great; they pick up the line faster and again save your arms from getting overworked.

Flies

Streamers: Puglisi Peacock, Pike fly, Puglisi Back Country Imitations, Puglisi Big Imitations and Puglisi Peanut Butter flies.
CF Bait Fish,
Tandon CF B
Poppers;
Taco Pescadors
Polo Dancers
Big Boy Travealle

Hooks

All flies should be on 2/0 to 4/0 hooks.
Colors:
Most popular in the Amazon is the color FireTiger. After that, Chartreuse/White, Red/Yellow, Black/Red, Perch, Orange/Yellows and most bait fish imitations are preferred.

Lines

Jim Teeny’s Saltwater Series TS 350 and his Saltwater Floating Lines. Scientific Anglers SA Sharkskin Magnum Tropic, in floating, and clear, slow sink tip. Rio’s Tropical Outbound short, in floating, and clear, slow sink tip.
