DETAILS:
First week for the 2014 season, our group of 12 anglers came to find great weather conditions. Days of sun and breezy, water levels dropping and beaches coming out. We fished the mid-upper region, tributaries and lagoons, in most part were the only ones out there for the week. The Guides worked hard getting back into those lagoons and back waters. Lures of choice were surface lures, high-rollers, woodchoppers and spooks with follow up jigs, red and white. One with a woodchopper and the other with a spook, diver or jig working the water together gave more results.

DETAILS:
First week of the season for Peacock Bass fishing in the Amazon brought high water levels, but the group went on. It paid off at the end of the trip as the water levels had just begun to inch down. The week turned out great with Anglers landing hundreds of Peacock Bass of which 29 were over 10 lbs., 5 were 20 lbs. or better, with the largest for the week being tackled by Nelson Burnell at “23 lbs.” and one team boating 70 Peacock Bass in one day. Several of those were over 10 lbs.
We want to thank Greg Thompson for getting this great group of friends together for the “Bobby Bash 2013” to kick off the season. Greg, a veteran angler to the Amazon who has had his pick of big fish, ended the week with 2 over 20 lbs. in one day, and his biggest was a beautiful 21 lb. Monster. Bobby landed 12-lb.’er and his partner, James M. landed a 20 lb. Peacock Bass on their second day on the water to start off the race for big Hawgs! Ron and CJ had missed a few big fish that would not let these two land them. Ron had his hooks straightened out by a very large Peacock Bass. Fishing is fishing, and we all have our chances at hooking that big one, but the toughest part is bringing them in and landing them, hence the saying “We will be back for another day in the jungle.” Our other two 2 new friends, Rob and John fished hard with landing a 15 lb.’er for their group.
Our couples of the week were Dale and Paula and thier friends Steve and Robin. What a fun time we had with these four good-humored, hard-core Anglers! These 4 had a real time on the river. Paula wanted to catch a catfish and a specific “Red Tail Catfish” at that, to add to their species of fish. Well, Paula finally landed her Red Tail and a 10 lb. Peacock Bass. Dale, on the other hand, is another story. He landed a nice 18 lb. Peacock Bass for the week, but oh no, it certainly didn’t end there. While fishing one spot, I was flagged down by their Guide, Carlinhos, waving like crazy for us to hurry over. Dale found himself having to choose between the Caiman, Piranhas, Dolphin, or the Peacock Bass, and guess what chose him? The Dolphins! This lead to a long boat ride going after the Dolphin to try and free it – till it finally got loose itself. We considered it just some good ole’ fashioned practice for a “Fat Amazon Cat” for his next day on the water! Their friends, Steve and Robin, made up the second couple on board. Steve landed a nice 18 lb.’er, while Robin landed a nice catfish, giving her quite the surprise as it came bursting out of the water at her. She didn’t quite know what was on the other end of the line!
Our other veteran Angler was Hoyt Fincher, who came with his long-time fishing partner Nelson Burnell, shared their expertise and Amazon stories with the other anglers throughout the week. Hoyt landed a 15 lb.’er and Nelson, once again, landed top fish for the week at “23-lbs”! Midweek, while Nelson partnered up with Frazer, they landed 70 Peacock Bass including many over 10 lbs., with Frazer’s being 11 lbs. Gary and James A. have also spent many great fishing adventures on the Rio Negro in the past. They’ve pulled in some mighty big boys out of this river throughout their years fishing here.
Gary landed a 12-lb.’er James A. landed a 17-lb.’er not to mention the large ones that got away. Barry and Gerald, kept us laughing with their down-south Bayou accents and jokes, and were one of our first-time Anglers to the Rio Negro. As always, our Guides helped them get into the rhythm of chopping those woodchopper lures across the water, and soon these two were fine-tuned and ready for that BIG one. After some blow ups, Barry hooked on to one and landed a striking 20 lb. Monster! Both shared the experience of a Trophy fish as good friends always do. Minutes later, Gerald hauls a huge one right up to the boat, and it just wasn’t going to cooperate. As it quickly vanished, Gerald knew that he now had his own story of “the Amazon Big One that got away”.

DETAILS:
With white beaches and promising water levels, our Inaugural trip brought veteran Peacock Bass fishermen, along with some first timers, down to the Amazon in search of the famous fighting Peacock Bass’ fish. Anglers boated 632 Peacock Bass with 23 of those 10 lbs. or better majority on top water lures. With the river on its constant change and different weather patterns, we had a slow start. The Peacock Bass seemed to go more for the Jigs and Flies on this week rather than the Top Water Lures. Favorite Jig and Fly patterns were yellow, red, and white worked the best for those who liked to take it easy with some trolling after some hard chopping on top water lures.
The Staff and Guides worked so hard to make sure the guests had an outstanding trip. Our Guides went to the limits to make sure our anglers were put on fish. Sam Sudore and and his fishing partner were a team of avid Fly Fisherman and even had their guide Ze Bodo show them the results of not being careful when it comes to Piranha fishing! Piranhas are well known to destroy flies in seconds. Ze, while removing one of the Piranhas caught, got “even with him” with a nice little nibble permanently relieving him of the tip of his finger. For those of you who know Ze, please know that he was in good hands with our Nurse on board. We are pretty sure Ze will have more respect for these little guys in the future. However, he didn’t let that stop him from continuing to serve his clients throughout the week (even though he may have seemed a little more – shall we say – “ quiet”)! I had a blast bringing in a 14 and 16 lb’er, and Shari landing her 16 lb. Peacock, She had her first real experience going after a Monster Peacock Bass. We two girls had lots of fun out on the water, with their happy dance at every big fish landed (well, actually it was ANY fish hooked). We may just have a new show in the making “Two Blondes lost in the Amazon”.
Mike and Dr. Fritz teamed up together with their biggest for Fritz at 16 lbs. These guys have fished the Amazon many times and gave it their best shot due to the rains, etc. Kent Clifton and Pam Lovelace (P.K.) were our most adventurous, first out and last in, with our Guides taking them to lagoons, dragging boats into far-away places, and they were always willing to explore and wanting more!
Kevin, who came down for the first time, got to know a little more about what the Amazon weather can do you an angler. After being nurtured back into the game, he was our mentor for the week with that great attitude and always our motivater and most entertaining fishing partner. Kevin’s new Big Fish dance had me, and our Guide, rolling in such laughter in the bass boat, the Guide had to cut the motor! Wish we could of caught this on tape! Jim, Frank, and Jason were also returning anglers who made the group hard hitters. Jim has landed several Monster fish in his past trips, but this trip the Peacock Bass just didn’t want to bit the Top Water lures. On a couple of days they also noticed the big fish crashing at the banks, biting the lures and then slapping, or knocking, the lure right out of the water…..sometimes 5 to 10 ft into the air! We have never seen so many lures do aerial acrobatics! These Peacocks were either getting ready to go on their beds or marking territory, and we still can’t figure out their strange behavior. The Guides say they’ve never seen anything like it either. According to Jim, he has never seen this behavior take place so much as he did on this trip with so many big fish crashing surface lures.
